Whether you are looking for a place for full time living or for a retreat to escape to when you have time off,“The Gray House” fits the bill. Tucked around the corner in a small cove with deep water (so you can always get the boat out, no matter how low the water level is), the view of the water from most rooms in the house restores the soul. Unlike locations with “wide water view” and many houses close by, the peace is not often disturbed by boats, jet skis or screaming kids. We found this house from the water, after boating around on the lake for a couple of years to find the best location for us.

This is a house for Dreams! For many happy years, our dream of living in the woods, on the lake, was the reality for us and our two kids who went to the local middle and high schools.

Our Dream has moved to a different place, so now there is room for your Dream of living on the beautiful Smith Mountain Lake.

Email for more information or photos or give us a call so we can show you what could be your Dream House.

Special note:

Due to very acidic soil in this part of Virginia - making for gorgeous azaleas and rhododendrons - well water entering a house will also be acidic (low pH). If there are copper pipes in a house, they will be corroded by the acidic water – unless it runs through a filter with calcium. It is also necessary to filter for sediments. This house is equipped with a whole house water filtration system to raise pH, filter and back wash the water, and to soften the calcified water – a $3,000+ value – delivering completely clean, delicious and healthy water which does not leave hard water deposits in sinks or other fixtures.

If you see teal (blue/green) deposits anywhere in a house, it is a sign of high copper levels in the water – and we can attest to what damage that will do in your body. Just make a search for "copper toxicity" and "zinc deficiency".

........and an - unsolicited - word from one of our "sponsors":

I grew up in this house and can tell you that it has many wonderful memories and is in a lovely, quiet part of the lake.

I am sad to see the house go, but I am happy to know that there will be other kids (and adult kids) :

- dive bombing off the rope swing

- sneaking out at night to go skinny dipping

- enjoying the peace and quiet on the deck with a good book

- grilling on one of the 3 decks

- having parties with plenty of indoor and outdoor space for everyone

- cooking elaborate meals in the large kitchen (enough room for helpers who will not be underfoot.... all while still  being able to talk with the guests who are in the living room

- not needing to get rid of anything when you move in.....there is enough storage

- celebrating Christmas in the living room with a corner full of windows so you see out onto the (hopefully) white   winter on the lake

- taking long walks with a dog and discovering the secret graveyard (with really, really old tomb stones)

- watching the wild life

- planting in the garden (there's minimal grass to be moved which is a plus)

- taking the boat out for fun in/on the water, watching 4th of July fireworks and exploring the lake

- getting to know our great neighbors

- relaxing with a cocktail in the the gorgeous, nautical-themed bar (crafted by my father and brother)

- soaking in the hot tub after a long day on the lake in a most special room  (also built by my father and brother)

- falling asleep in spacious rooms with the windows open and nothing but sounds of water and chirping bugs....(my room is the sun/moon themed room with the custom designed wall unit. I spent many hours reading books in that window seat

If you (or anyone you know) want a piece of heaven - please check out the web site, spread the word, send up sky writers, and drive down to visit and meet my wonderful parents who have put so much effort into making this a beautiful house and home. Really!
